- Many of the available Status options will result in an Open Shift when chosen, including:
- Employee Canceled
- No Show
- Office Canceled
- Tentatively Assigned
- When you choose one of these Statuses, you will be left on the Shift you were just working on, but there will be a button under the Shift Status that will take you to the corresponding Open Shift that was generated by the Status change.

Assigning a Caregiver
- In the Shift Detail screen of an Open Shift, you can find available Caregivers to fill the shift by clicking on the shift, then Find Available Caregivers from the menu.
- This will bring up a list of all the Caregivers who are available and qualified to take this Shift.
- When you've found the Caregiver you want to assign, simply click the Assign button next to that Caregivers name.
- If the Caregiver you want to assign is not showing up when you click Find Available, you can expand your search by clicking any of the three check boxes for Has Availability, Has Skills and Works Service Type and then click "Update".
- Just clear a checkbox to have Rosemark ignore that criteria when searching. Caregivers lacking one or more of these criteria have an Assign Anyway button instead of just an Assign button.
- When you click Assign Anyway, you will be shown which criteria the Caregiver is missing and asked to confirm that you still want to assign them despite the missing criteria.
Figure: From the Open Shift you can find Caregivers available to take the Open shift.
- To unassign an Assigned shift, just click on the "Unassign Shift" button. When you successfully unassign the Shift, you are left at the resulting Open Shift.

Splitting a Shift
If you want to split a Shift, you have 3 options:
- Split Shift
- This option will simply split the Shift in two at a time you select.
- Just click the Shift and click "Split Shift..."
- You will then be prompted to enter the time at which you would like to split the Shift. Once you've entered the time and pressed OK, you will be taken to the Shift Detail screen of the later of the Shifts created by the split.
- Split Shift and Set Tardy
- This option allows you to indicate that a Caregiver showed up late for a shift. This works by splitting the shift at the time the Caregiver actually arrived.
- The portion of the original Shift that was missed will be separated from the portion that was worked and the missed portion will be marked Tardy.
- Just click the Shift and click "Split Shift and Set Tardy (T)..."
- You will then be prompted to enter the time at which you would like to split the Shift (when the Caregiver actually arrived). Once you've entered the time and pressed OK, you will be taken to the Shift Detail screen of the worked Shift (the later of the Shifts created by the split).
- Split Shift and Set Did Not Finish
- This option is for when a Caregiver leaves a Shift earlier than they are supposed to, leaving the Shift unfinished.
- The portion of the original Shift that was skipped will be separated from the portion that was worked and the skipped portion will be marked Did Not Finish.
- Just click the Shift and click "Split Shift and Set Did Not Finish (DNF)..."
- You will then be prompted to enter the time at which you would like to split the Shift (when the Caregiver left). Once you've entered the time and pressed OK, you will be taken to the Shift Detail screen of the worked Shift (the earlier of the Shifts created by the split).
